The opportunity 

Serves as a subject-matter expert (SME) and executive-level leader for the entire Shepherd Safety Services team. Drive the growth of the business and the team through partner engagement, thought leadership, client relationship development, and business development leadership. In client engagements, provide executive oversight and guide development of strategies, processes, systems, and other deliverables for REMS-related and other drug safety projects.

Role responsibilities 

  • Drive business development activities:
      • Close new business valued at $1M+ annually (Principal) or $2M+ annually (Senior Principal) 
      • Identify and pursue new business development opportunities with clients who are new to Shepherd (includes those who work with other parts of EPG)  
      • Support Portfolio Directors and Senior Portfolio Directors in identifying and pursuing business development opportunities with existing Shepherd clients 
      • Develop proposals and request for proposal responses, lead/participate in pitch presentations, and draft project statements of work (SOWs) 
  • Lead growth and development of Shepherd Safety Services business and team:
      • Guide and oversee quality activities, such as standard operating procedure development/updates and audit readiness 
      • Direct development of tools, templates, and other Shepherd resources for BD and project execution  
      • Stay up to date on drug safety regulations, guidances, and best practices, with a particular focus on REMS  
      • Lead, participate in, and/or support marketing activities, such as drug safety conferences, white papers, and REMS Industry Consortium (RIC) sponsorship 
  • Serve as a project lead and/or SME, providing strategic insight from drug safety experience and ensure appropriate management-level oversight of day-to-day project activities:
      • Oversee 1-3 Portfolio Directors/Senior Portfolio Directors (Principal); oversee 4-6 Portfolio Directors/Senior Portfolio Directors
      • Direct Portfolio Directors/Senior Portfolio Directors in ensuring effective project delivery within agreed upon timelines and with appropriate quality 
      • Proactively provide insights from safety program understanding and experiences to direct project team to deliver excellence in project operations, review potential project risks identified by project leads and managers, and approve solutions for project delivery and/or client relationship management 
  • Direct project leads and managers in developing in a variety of different formats (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, Excel) that meet quality standards and are client-ready in terms of alignment to client needs, use of effective storyboarding and strategic frameworks, alignment to Shepherd processes and general best practices, and application of drug safety regulations, guidances, and templates:
      • Mentor and direct project leads and managers in their conduct of project management responsibilities  
      • Client management: external communication strategies, client expectations management, relationship building, and issue resolution 
      • Tracking, reporting, and document management: appropriate and timely tracking of project activities, decisions, and milestones; awareness of project status by client and internally; and application of best practices for document management 
      • Financial management (internally and externally): internal project financial management (invoicing, time/effort reporting, and revenue recognition forecasting) and financial management as a client service (budgeting, reporting, AP/AR). 
  • Take ownership of vendor/partner relationships:
      • Set expectations for vendor/partner engagement, including both day-to-day interactions, problem solving, and difficult conversations 
      • Develop and approve vendor/partner agreements
      • Oversee development of tools, templates, and processes to facilitate and/or streamline partner engagement  

Do you have what we are looking for? 

Skills & expertise 

  • 12+ years of experience in the development and operation of Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) programs
  • 12+ years project management experience 
  • 7+ years overseeing middle management team members (e.g., line manager, development coach) and directing multiple projects 

The provided salary range reflects the potential base salary for this role in the United States, considering factors such as your professional and academic experience, training, and role responsibilities. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer an attractive total compensation benefits package designed to reward and support our people.
